Okay, I’m going to “out” some people (not by name…so don’t get too excited) in this post. I’ve been hearing a lot of complaining lately from some fellow real estate agents about how they didn’t get into this business to chauffeur clients around and be a tour guide (as if!). I started wondering if there was something wrong with me because, hey, I like looking at houses, touring people around, and having fun while I do it! Candid confession time: a part of me always wanted to be a tour guide anyways. I also wanted to make more than $8/hour…sooo, bonus for me!
Sometimes, I get embarrassingly more excited about the house than my clients do. I like thinking about the possibilities and the end result (and the fact that I don’t have to do any of the work!). And no, I’m not ashamed of being more excited than my buyers (anymore).
Because here’s the deal: Houses are FUN to look at. I am convinced that it is the most exciting purchase of one’s life and the satisfaction of owning your own home is unlike any other. I like looking at homes with my clients and helping them find “the one”. Going out and previewing homes should be a blast. There will be enough time for being serious when you sit down to write the contract, when you negotiate, when you have the inspection, etc…but if I could give some advice: enjoy the process of looking. To me, it’s one of the best parts of my job AND you get to see interesting new things every day (unlike the tour guide pictured above who see’s the same thing everyday…on the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland, which I’m pretty sure hasn’t changed at all in my lifetime).
So, if you are ready to get out there, look at some homes, and not feel like you are inconveniencing someone for doing so (and having some fun while you’re at it), give me a call at (425) 483-1010 or email me at Ryan@BoardwalkSeattle.com – let’s find you a home!
